Poem 10: Growing Things

Shards of stone like living sand
Tray of mud with no competition
Press the shards into the dark
And hope the magic will work

Hints of green appearing in the tray
Reaching up to find the warm light
Some shards lacked that spark
Sacrificed to help their twins

Young shoots doubling every night
Ready to be tipped into their bigger homes
Put outside for the sun to see
And the rain to find

Growing strong and ready to mate
Lilac silks and yellow pollen flowers
The breeze carries the information
To make the next generation

Small yellow fruits grow
Hidden by the green sepals
Covered in dried silks
And held by drying stalks
