Poem 3: Feline Wanderer

Listening for small rustling in the hedge
Watching for sharp movement in the tree
Sniffing for wandering iggiwick* in the cabbages
Waiting for the humans riding in the steel beetle

The woman scratches my head
The man chases me away
The girl chirps at me
The boy tries to pull my tail

One day they brought a dog kitten home
It seemed to be named Max
At first it would run and hide
Then I would be chased away

The canine invader drove me away
So I went to find my own home
Food was hard to find
I was never a great hunter

An elderly human female saw me
Chirped at me like the girl
It knew how to open the food seeds#
And it never pulled my tail

It let me stay
So I settled here
And that's my life
The feline wanderer
