Poem 12: The Movement of Air Across The Ground by Freya Mears {me}

[Not entirely sure on the science in a couple of spots]

A dip in the ground reflects heat
Concentrating it and heating the air
The warm air rises and creates a vacuum
And other air rushes to fill the gap

Another cause is the planet spinning
A band around the middle gets left behind
Which seems to move as we spin below it
And we can go along for the ride

The movement of air across the ocean
Allowed humans to travel so far
Without that band around the planet
Sailors would have starved on the water

The movement of air across the land
Helps many species of plant reproduce
Their pollen is blown between each other
And is the reason flowers exist

Wind shapes the ground from both land and sea
Giant waves are built by wind far out to sea
So are sand blasted rock sculptures in the desert
And rain is moved, and sometimes caused, by wind

Moisture cools and condenses as it rises
When the wind pushes it up the sides of mountains
Without the movement of the wind those valleys would be deserts
And their rivers would all be dry

This blessing can be a curse as well
A destroying spiral can appear when hot air rises too fast
Removing everything in its path
Which still uncovers dormant seeds and gives them space to grow
